How can my family attend camp?

We are excited for you and your family to join us at Camp Bumblebee, November 8-10, 2024! If you have a child with food allergies and would like to attend, please apply by clicking the button below. Our inaugural camp will be very limited in size. As we grow, we can't wait to accommodate all who wish to attend future camps.

Why a family camp?

At Camp Bumblebee, we know that food allergies affect the entire family.  We wanted to create a space where kids, siblings, and parents can be together and learn from others going through similar life experiences.  You are not alone!  Families will attend activities together, bunk together, and learn together!

Who can come to camp?

We welcome campers ages 0-17 with any type of food allergies, their siblings (ages 0-17), and caregivers.  We require 1 adult per 2 kids attending camp.  While there will be staff and volunteers at camp to help facilitate activities, we do not have counselors. You will be required to attend all activities with your children.

** Due to safety regulations, children under the age of 6 will not be allowed to participate in the ropes/challenge course.

Where is Camp Bumblebee located?

Camp Bumblebee is located near Burton, TX, about halfway between Austin, TX and Houston, TX. Camp Bumblebee will be hosted by Camp For All, a barrier-free camp that has been catering to families with special needs for more than 30 years.

Can I volunteer?

Yes!  We would love for you to volunteer, but it is on a case by case basis (based on space and camper needs).  Please email us to inquire further.

What food allergies are you able to accommodate?

The kitchen staff at Camp for All can accommodate any and all food allergies. Once we have our list of each camper and their food restrictions, the staff will create a specialized menu for us without the top 9 food allergens of the campers in attendance. Our kitchen is free of peanuts and all tree nuts. The kitchen will go through a strict and thorough cleaning process prior to cooking all meals for Camp Bumblebee. No matter what your food allergy is, we will be able to accommodate it!

What should I pack?

  • Any and all medications

  • Seasonal/temperature appropriate clothing.  We will be very active (ropes course, canoeing, horseback riding, etc) so bring clothes that are comfortable and can get dirty.

  • Closed toed shoes.  Camp for All will not allow you to participate in any activities without closed toed (tennis type) shoes.  No crocs, flipflops, sandals allowed except inside the cabins.

  • Any toiletries needed

  • Towels**

  • Bedding (twin fitted and flat sheet, pillowcase & cover/sleeping bag)**

**Due to many of our campers requiring specialized/sensitive detergents, we ask that you bring your own bedding and towels.  This ensures that anyone with dermatological conditions are safe and comfortable.

For individuals in food allergy treatment programs, how do you handle food?

If your child is currently receiving food allergy treatments, please bring all materials for the doses that they will require at camp.  All treatments will take place in the medical cabin and be administered by the guardian of the child.  No treatment food of any kind is allowed in the eating areas or cabins unless provided by staff as there are a wide variety of allergies around you.

What medication should I bring?

All of it!  Auto injectors can stay with the child (if they self carry) or the guardian at all times.  If you would like to store a second device in the medical cabin, you are welcome to.

All other medicine must be stored in the medical cabin with the proper forms filled out. No medication (aside from auto injectors) are allowed in the regular cabins.

I cannot attend camp but would love to make a donation to help send others to camp! How can I do that?

Thank you for your generosity! Every donation helps pay for families to come to Camp Bumblebee! Please email us to learn more.

Where will we sleep?

Each family will have one half of an air-conditioned cabin.  This includes 2 rooms (2-4 beds per room), a bathroom (with 2 showers, and 2 toilets), and a shared common space with seating.

What is the cost of camp?

The current cost of camp is $350 a person.

Health and Safety

Medical Staff:

We will have at least one medical professional (doctor, nurse, or EMT) on staff who will remain in the medical cabin. They will monitor all medications, and any minor injuries, on site. They will also help evaluate the need for additional medical care.

Meal procedures:

We will not be the only camp on location which means there will be another camp with different needs sharing our space.  We will have designated tables, and of course food, for our camp however they will share the dining space.  That being said, we cannot prevent someone from dropping food on the floor, or walking around the common space.  Please remember, this is still real life and it is your responsibility to prepare your family as you would in any other public space.

There will be no nuts of any kind being served to anyone at camp, including the other camp in attendance.  The only nuts being served at the facility will be those in an active allergy treatment program which will be provided in the medical cabin.

Where is the nearest emergency room?

The nearest emergency room is located in Brenham, about 15 miles away.  Additionally, local emergency personnel (EMS) are close by and very familiar with Camp for All, which caters to a variety of medical needs.
